Rules for Chamberlin House Residents
- The Chamberlin House Director shall be in charge of Chamberlin House. The members of the Woman's Club House Committee shall assist her.
- The House Director shall have access to all rooms and closets to ensure that safety regulations are met and in case of emergency.
- Each resident shall be required to keep her room clean and orderly. Her wastebasket shall be emptied at least weekly.
- The kitchen and pantries shall be kept clean at all times. Each resident shall be responsible for keeping her assigned spaces in the pantry, refrigerator and freezer clean. Because rental groups use the kitchen, each resident is responsible for keeping the sink and counters free of dishes.
- NO SMOKING - the entire house is non-smoking. Smoking in the house shall be cause for notice to vacate.
- Each resident shall be responsible for leaving all bathroom facilities clean after use. The bathroom floor shall be kept clean at all times. The bathroom wastebasket shall be emptied as needed.
- All trash from the residents' wastebaskets shall be emptied into a large trash bag and placed in the refuse box on the back porch. All refuse shall be put out on the sidewalk on Monday nights for Tuesday morning pickup.
- No ironing shall be done in the residents' rooms. Residents shall iron in the linen room only and make sure the iron is unplugged after each use.
- Any damage done to the rooms by a resident shall be paid for by the resident.
- Nails shall not be driven into the walls. The furniture shall not be moved.
- Unlocked doors (front, back or basement) left by any resident shall be cause for dismissal.
- Lights, radio, TV and stereo shall be turned off when a resident is not in her room. The thermostat shall not be touched. Windows shall be closed when residents leave the premises.
- Anyone found with a controlled drug in her possession shall be dismissed from the house within 24 hours. Intoxication from either alcohol or drugs on the premises by a resident or her guest shall be cause for dismissal.
- Any resident coming in after 11:00pm shall be quiet and shall use the carpeted stairway.
- No guest may be invited to lodge overnight without permission of the House Director. The guest shall be charged $10 plus room tax (currently 8%) per night, limited to two nights, payable at time of occupancy. Only female guests are allowed.
- Male guests shall be restricted to the downstairs area.
- RENT:
a. A security deposit of $25 shall be required.b. A deposit of $5 shall be required for the house and room keys. The key deposit shall be returned when the keys are surrendered. If a key is lost, the resident shall pay the replacement cost.
c. The deposit shall not be used as payment for rent.
d. The security deposit shall be returnable, if there is no damage.
e. The rental week begins on the day the resident moves into the room.
f. Rental fees plus the New Hampshire room tax shall be payable two weeks in advance. When a resident has completed 185 consecutive days of rental, the state room tax is no longer collected and the resident is due a refund of the tax less a 3% commission paid to the state.
g. Two weeks' notice shall be given by a resident before leaving.
- No pets shall be allowed in the house or on the grounds.
- No laundry can be done in the house, as there are no facilities.
- TELEPHONE:
When using the house phone, residents shall limit calls to 20 minutes. Residents shall use a calling card for all long-distance calls, as they are otherwise blocked from the house phone. Residents shall check the answering machine for messages and delete them when finished.
- Except when residents are using the telephone, the library shall be reserved for the use of Woman's Club members. Another exception is when a resident has an overnight guest staying in the library.
- The silverware and china shall be used only for and at meetings of the Woman's Club, unless by special permission of the House Director. Furniture and accessories on the first floor of the house shall not be moved or rearranged.
- A resident shall be given two weeks' notice to vacate unless an earlier time is defined according to one of the above rules.
- The kitchen doors shall be closed when cooking. Residents shall check the event calendar for kitchen availability.
- Residents with suggestions or comments may speak to the House Director.
